IMDB rating: 7.40 Plot: At once a merciless skewering of all things fanboy and an extremely satisfying addition to the Futurama franchise, Bender’s Game is among the best of the animated series’ feature length adventures. The game in question is Dungeons and Dragons, and Bender wants in—only robots aren’t programmed with the necessary imagination. Naturally, Bender’s plans to develop one go completely awry and land him in an android asylum. The role-playing plotline later re-emerges—in typically convoluted Futurama fashion—via a subplot involving Professor Farnsworth’s conversion of dark matter into spaceship fuel, which created a key to a very D&D-influenced universe where our hapless heroes eventually find themselves. The alternate world storyline allows for much lampooning of fantasy tropes, with Lord of the Rings receiving the lion’s share of the tweaks. Seeing as how the writers have already devoted much of the movie’s running time to parodying Star Wars and Star Trek (and their Lego offshoots), one might think that Bender’s Game might suffer from pop-culture overload, but surprisingly, it all feels fresh and frequently funny, and the writers are wise to ground the story in their eccentric characters rather than pinballing them through an endless string of gags. The result is probably the strongest of the direct-to-DVD Futurama releases to date, and one that newcomers to the show’s cracked universe can appreciate as much as longtime fans.As with previous Futurama DVD releases, the extras come fast and furious on Bender’s Game: commentary by members of the cast and production team (including Matt Groening) is both informative and funny, while interviews with the writers and producers discuss, among other topics, the influence of Dungeons and Dragons on the series and the 3D models used in the feature. Aspiring animators might appreciate “How To Draw Futurama in 83 Easy Steps and the storyboard animatic for the first part of the story, while the “Genetics Lab” feature allows for some amusing Dr. Moreau-style cross-breeding of the characters. Recording session bloopers and a deleted scene offer their own laughs, but the most enjoyable extra must be the preview for the next Futurama feature, Into the Wild Green Yonder, which suggests a shocking development for one of the show’s regulars. |

Who's excited about the return of 'Futurama'?
"Futurama" originally ran from 1999 to 2003 before being cancelled. Then, in 2007, production started again to produce four films to be split into 16 episodes when broadcast and released as ‘feature length epics’ on DVD. These films were ‘Bender’s Big Score’, ‘The Beast With a Billion Backs’, ‘Bender’s Game’, and finally ‘Into the Wild Green Yonder’.
The final scene of the final film left the series open ended with all of the main characters flying into a wormhole. The writers intended this final film to tie everything up in a neat package as it was then believed that it was the final Futurama production ever.
But then, in 2009, as if the gods had reigned blessings upon the earth…an announcement was made by Comedy Central…
Futurama…is….coming….BACK.

This will mark the series’ return to episodic format. I am wondering whether the writers will actually explain what happened to the crew after traveling into the wormhole at the end of the final film. I absolutely adore the original series and the four films (though it seems very obvious when you watch them that they were made to be cut up into four episodes as some of the plot points are sort of presented in ‘blocks’).
Also, will the new season (26 eps.) be called Season 5 or 6? Did the movies count as a season or are they ‘between’ season 4 and the upcoming 5?

I was absolutely disgusted when I found out it was being cancelled originally. There are way worse shows going still going on to this day. Futurama was brilliant, witty, clever, fantastic story structure and unforgettable characters.
Its hard to say whether the new season will be 5 or 6. When I was watching the feature-length episodes (Benders Big Score etc) on television, the SKY guide referred to it as a new season. So it may just go on to season 6 I think but I’m not too sure.
Bring on more Zapp too!!! My favorite character in Futurama!!!

I am totally excited! This is the first I heard of it. I sat up all night once watching a futurama marathon. It was a blast!

This is not a federal issue. It is a state level issue and I would strongly support mandatory first time offenders get a minimum of 30 years in prison with no possibility of parole. That would result in offenders doing 15 to 20 years in prison before they get a chance to try their perversion again. Hopefully they will have learned their lesson by then.

Dirty! I would support this! I think they should have there privates cut off! Neuter them then they just won’t have the desire for it! Screw them taking pills for it that’s stupid they can just quit taking those! They take something from children we should be able to take their balls!
